To stop snoring, it is important to take advice from a doctor. This is because it can be due to an underlying condition. Below we have provided ten tips that can help you to stop snoring.

1. Losing weight

When you lose weight, it reduces the tissue present in your throat that causes snoring. You can do so by lowering your intake of calories. Exercise is also significant in this regard.

2. Sleeping on the side

Sleeping on the back can make your tongue go to the back of your throat. This blocks the airflow. Sleeping on the side will help the air to flow seamlessly that will reduce your snoring.

3. Treating chronic allergy

Allergies can further lower the airflow coming through the nose that makes you breathe through the mouth. This enhances the chances of snoring. Talking to your doctor about any over-the-counter medications can improve your overall condition.

4. Avoiding Alcohol

Sedatives and alcohol reduce the tone of your resting muscles on the backside of your throat. This is why it will become more likely for you to snore. Also, people who generally do not snore may snore after they drink alcohol.

5. Practicing Better Sleep Hygiene

Bad sleep habits like drinking alcohol can cause snoring. For instance, if you work for a long time, then your muscles will become floppy resulting in deep sleep and snoring.

6. Opening Nasal Passages

When your nasal passages are open, you will experience less snoring. To open them, you can take hot showers before going to bed.

Mouth exercises like oropharyngeal exercises help to stop snoring. It further strengthens the throat and the tongue.

8. Quitting Smoking

Smoking contributes to snoring. Therefore, quitting smoking can help to resolve this problem.

9. Surgical Treatments

Some surgical treatments reduce snoring. These include Somnoplasty and palatal implants.

10. Anti-snoring mouthpiece

Anti-snoring mouthpieces are a type of mouthguard. They fit in the teeth and prevent snoring.
