Swallowing Problems and its causes
Swallowing difficulty is the incapability to swallow foods or any kind of liquids with ease. People who have difficulty in swallowing may suffocate when trying to swallow. Dysphagia is another medical term for swallowing problems.
What causes swallowing problems?
As per the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, for swallowing food or any drinks, 50 pairs of muscles are used. In simple words, there are a lot many things that can go wrong and lead to swallowing problems.
Heartburn: It is a burning feeling in your chest that occurs with a bitter taste in your throat or mouth.
Esophagitis: It is swelling of the esophagus that can be caused by acid reflux or specific medications.
Herpes esophagitis: It is caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). This infection causes some chest pain and difficulty in swallowing.
Thyroid nodule: It is a nodule lump that develops in your thyroid gland. This gland can either be solid or filled with liquid. These nodules can be a single one or a group of nodules.
